What Does Mucus Opacification In The Diagnosis Suggest?
Will you please explain my diagnosis in simple English? I am 45 years of age and hearing loss, mostly in the left ear. My diagnosis: severe and complete mucus opacification of the bilateral mastoid air cells along with interseptal and cortical thickening with the left mastoid cells; also significant soft tissut opacification of the left middle ear with moderate disease seen on the right.
welcome to Health care magic. 1.In simple english - the mastoid air cells are opacified ( filled with some fluid). 2.Normally they are suppose to be empty - due to which there could be hearing loss. 3.This collection (opacification) is seen due to the infective / inflammatory cause. 4.If these are x-ray findings - better investigation of choice for the temporal bone / mastoid region for better diagnosis is HRCT temporal bone. ( high resolution computer tomography) 5.Thichening of the soft tissue also noted - infective aetiology. 6.Treatment of choice in this case will be antibiotic treatment initially. Hope it helps you. Wish you a good health. Anything to ask ? do not hesitate. Thank you.
