Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had an emergency room visit and a ct scan with contrast showed an enlarged thyroid? When I went to my regular doctor blood was drawn and the thyroid panel showed normal function. Can the thyroid function within normal range yet still be enlarged? Currently I am experiencing a sore throat with swollen glands only on the left front side of my throat.
Yes its possible to have enlarged thyroid with normal thyroid functions as this hormone is necessary for normal body metabolism and in growing age due to its increased demand it can become enlarged. Other possibility is viral thyroiditis however, its not the case in this scenario as you do not mentioned any neck tenderness or pain with normal thyroid functions report.
I hope i have answered your query.
