Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hi.. a cat scan showed a thickening and fluid indicating there...may.. be a tumor in my appendix...and there is no way of knowing until it comes out and is biopsied...rather then do a normal appenditomy...they wnat to do a right hemicolectomy and remove a portion of my large intestine so they dont have to do a second surgery if the biopsy comes back malignant...is this normal protocal for this type of situation?..it seems a little drastic
Since CT reports show suspecting malignancy in the appendix, If you do biopsy or appendicectomy it may flare up and secondaries possible. If they are not noticed any secondaries better hemicolectomy and biopsy is good.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. C.ELANCHEZHIAN, General & Family Physician
