Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a ct scan and it showed I have gall stones. My doctor wants to remove my gallbladder but I have had no signs of pain or anything else relating to gallbladder problems. Should I go ahead and have it removed or wait till I experience some kind of discomfort?
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic. I can understand your concern. This kind of accidental finding is very common. Gall stones can be found accidentally in an asymptomatic patient. If you are thin, male and young (less than 40 years of age) then prophylactic surgical removal of gall stone is not needed. But if you are female, fat (over weight) and aged more than 40 years then it is better to get them removed surgically. So discuss these risk factors with your doctor and decide accordingly. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
