Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am looking at pics of my colonoscopy I had this morning and my GI Doctor told me it is too large to remove it is in the upper right corner at the transverse and acsending colon measuring 20 mm in size. I had one there 20 years ago that was adenomatous and was having routine colonoscopy s all of which were clean so the last one I had was 2006 and he said I could go 10 years. I do have a family history of colon cancer. Now I am scared . this one is described as a frond like/villous, broad based polyp and my doctor is scheduling me for a CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis and with a general surgeon. What are your thought s I am 60 yrs old
Your CT scan is to look for possible metastases (even though your polyp may not be a cancer!). A histological examination of your polyp ensues, and this examination in addition to the CT scan will guide treatment.
If it is a benign polyp, an advanced polypectomy technique (EMR, ESD, etc.) may be used to remove it, alternatively, a local bowel resection may be necessary.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Anders Mark Christensen,
General Surgeon
