What Does My CT Scan Result For Severe Pain In Lower Abdomen Indicate?

Hi,I am having severe pain on my lower left back and left lower abdomen for few days now. I had my back massage to lessen the pain but its not working. then today, i felt urinating or pooping the whole day now but it s not making me feel any better. my doctor had me checked last 25/Nov/2015 and found in my CT scan a 6mm calculus, non-obstructing in the upper pole of my left kidney. is it one of the cause of my pains? I have been trying pain killers and not helping either. should i go to the emergency now? please help

Hello, Thanks for the question.
The type of pain you are having in called "flank pain" in medical terms and is characteristic of renal calculus (which may be in kindney or in the ureter, which is the tube which takes urine from kidney to bladder).

As your CT scan has shown, your have confirmed calculus 6mm in left kidney. This is a small sized calculus and may cause intermittent severe pains for which your doctor may prescribe anti-spasmodics like Drotin/Buscopan etc. It will not be relieved by simple pain killers.

So, if you still have severe pain, you should visit the emergency for the necessary treatment.

Also, in long term, you should take plenty of fluids to maintain adequate urine flow and to avoid obstruction of urine flow and urinary infections. Please consult your Surgeon for further plan of management.
