What Does My MRI Report Mean?

I just did an MRI of lumbosacral spine and it indciated L5/S1 caudally migrated central and right-paracentral posterior disc protrusion indenting the thecal sac and entrapping the preforaminal segment of the right S1 nerve root. I need to understand what that means? and whether this is curable using medication and physical therapy or do I need a surgery?

Hello!

My name is Dr. Aida and I am glad to attend you on Healthcaremagic!

These MRI findings are indicative of degenerative changes in the lumbar spine intervertebral discs (bulging) that lead to compression of the nerve roots which originate in this region, probably causing irradiating pain in this region (in the sacral area).
Do you experience pain in this region?
Physiotherapy and medication (painkillers, muscle relaxants) can help improve the situation. Surgery should be discusses as a treatment option, only if physiotherapy and medications fail to improve the situation.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!
Best wishes!
