I have been diagnosed through an MRI that I have severe right hip osteoarthritis with bone on bone superolaterly, subcortical sclerosis, subcortical cysts and moderate marginal osteophytes. A hip replacement is being recommended. Can u please explain in terms that r a little easier for a lay person to understand?
Hello and welcome to HCM, The MRI of hip describes various lesions of the hip joint. There are degenerative lesions in the hip joint consisting of sclerosis or rarefaction of bone in the sub-cortical zone, formation of cysts and formation of osteophytes (bony spurs) on the joint surface. All these lesions are characteristic of degenerative hip condition called osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is an age related degenerative condition and its definitive management is total hip replacement. Thus, you need to consult your orthopedician for further work up to plan for total hip replacement.
