My recent MRI of the sacrum to rule out sacroiliitis contains this statement in the report impressions Diffusely heterogeneous marrow signal intensity through exam, potentially related to red marrow conversion from chronic anemia. Hematology correlation suggested. Can you explain this? I am an RN so I have some medical background
Based on the history you have shared, it is suggesting that extra poetic hemopoiesis or blood cells synthesis is going on in locations where usually no hematopoiesis or blood cells production is predicated.
It happens in some kind of congenital anemias which are long-standing or continuous blood turn over due to rapid blood break down and needs for repeated synthesis is needed.
It's better to get blood counts done and peripheral film, LDH, bilirubin levels should also be done and hematologist review may be needed.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
