Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I would like to know what my PFT results indicate. It is taking a long time for the pulmonary doctor to generate an actual report. I am 4 10.5in tall but have a 55 degree scoliosis curve and based on my arm span should be around 5 1-5 2 tall so I know that can can make the results a little trickery to read. The hospital did not use my corrected height to correct for the spinal deformity. I am not sure how to interpret these results because my spinal deformity makes me shorter. Does this indicate Asthma? My results are: FVC-3.36 FEV1-2.92 FEV1/fvc-87 fef 25%-7.41 fef 75%1.67 FEF 25-75% 3.24 fef MAX 8.41 FIVC 3.15 FIF MAX 4.84 MVV 144 LUNG VOLUMES: SVC 3.35 IC 2.11 ERV 1.25 TGV 2.66 RV 1.41 TLC 4.76 RV/TLC(%) 30 DIFUSSION: DLCOunc 18.72 DL/VA 5.07 VA 3.69 AIRWAY RESISTANCE: Raw 1.10 Gaw .91 sRaw 3.08 sGaw .33
As per my surgical experience, the raised ratio of FEV1 to FVC above 70% (as 87 % in your case) indicates possible restrictive lung disease rather than asthma (which is obstructive disease and ratio is below 70%. However, it would be better to co relate the data with clinical examination to commend further precisely taking care of your height issue.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
