Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I m 18 years old and I just got a blood test back saying my LDL is out of range at 108. My total blood cholesterol is 175, which is within range and my VLDL is 17. I was wondering if I should be worried about being out of range and what steps I should take to change my lifestyle if that were to be the case.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. Looking at your blood report of lipid profile you have given, the values are well within normal range. But the complete lipid profile components are missing in the report. Anyway, Total cholesterol should be below 180mg% and it is 175mg%, which is alright. LDL cholesterol should be below 160mg% and it is 108mg%, which is also fine. VLDL should be below 40mg% and it is 17mg%, which is also fine. What is not found in the report is HDL cholesterol, which is good cholesterol and should be as high as possible and the range is 40 to 80mg% and triglyceride levels, which should be below 190mg%. You can maintain these values through healthy diet and exercise. All the best.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM. I have gone through your query. Your cholesterol level is within normal limits. LDL is slightly increased. You can exercise daily like walking with at least 8 km per hour speed or jogging. Taking oily fish like makeral or sardines will be helpful in decreasing LDL and increasing the good cholesterol HDL. You didn't write your HDL levels. It could be low in your case. Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear. Thanks.
