Hi, I just had a blood test done for my life insurance and everything came back good except for my SGPT and Gamma Glutamyltransferase, they were high, about double what they should be...I did however, take nyquil for about 7-10 days before that, once a day at bedtime and I am thinking that is what cause the raised enzyme level and wanted your opinion.
High SGPT and GGT may indicate liver injury. It may be due to many reasons like hepatitis, alcohol intake, altered lipid profile, medicines, auto immune causes etc. Nyquil in normal dose for 7- 10 days is not expected to cause doubling of SGPT and GGT.
You may need clinical evaluation and investigations like routine hemogram, viral markers, random blood sugar, lipid profile, ultrasound of abdomen. I suggest tablet ursodeoxycholic acid 300 mg tablet twice daily for three months. It helps in regeneration of liver cells. Avoid alcohol if you take it.
Get well soon. Take Care Dr.Indu Bhushan
