Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hello , i recently had a blood test done and will be seeing my doctor for a f/up in a few weeks. The only abnormal readings were my a1c which was at 8(insulin diabetic for 35 years-i am 61 now) and for the first time my tsh indicated high at 5.76. Is this serious? Everything else was within the normal range. I have been through alot lately taking care of my 91 year old mother who has very bad dementia. I understand the a1c being high and i will work on loosing weight and exercising more. 8 is the highest i have ever had, i m really concerned about the tsh--any info you can provide would be very appreciated. Thank-you
You should do the ultra sensitive TSh and free thyroid hormone tests . if Tsh is high you will need to be put on thyroid hormone supplement as this indicates hypothyroidism
