Hi. I have recently had a repeat blood test to recheck my thyroid levels and have been told that I may have to go on thyroxin medication. My Serum TSH level on 24th May was 8.96miu/L and my Serum free T4 level was 12.3 pmol/L. I had these bloods repeated on 4th July and my Serum TSH was 10.3 and T4 11.8. Could you please tell me if these levels are dangerously deranged, what symptoms should I be experiencing (I am suffering from fatigue and joint pains), and if I were to be commenced upon medications would it be for the rest of my life. Many thanks
You have mildly increased tsh. High tsh is seen generally in hypothyroidism. Patient feels fatigue, constipation, lethargy, weight gain, swelling, puffy face etc. Go in for anti tpo antibody test. If that is also high then treatment needs to be commenced soon. Otherwise if asymptomatic you can wait.
