Hello,

The fatigue and shortness of breath is due to Iron deficiency anemia as it is evident from the increased red cell distribution with (RDW) and low serum Iron levels.
There can be multiple causes for the iron deficiency anemia like:
1) Nutritional deficiency (most common)
2) Worm infestation in intestine
3) Occult blood loss from gastrointestinal tract
4) Bleeding
5) Drug induced
6) Defective absorption from intestine
7) Chronic diseases causing inflammation in the body

The cause of your iron deficiency anemia needs to be found out. It would have been better if you have mentioned the hemoglobin level of your blood, your age. Treatment depends on severity of symptoms and level of hemoglobin.
My advice to you is:
a) Improve your diet with iron rich food
b) Get a peripheral smear of blood done
c) Kindly do ESR and occult blood in stool

The symptoms you have mentioned point toward the need for red cell transfusion. Kindly consult a physician with the above said investigation reports.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Meera Rajeev
