Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
what does this mean differential diagnosis includes extensive acute bone marrow contusion/microfractures versus bone marrow replacement processes. Clinical correlation is recommended. Soft tissue edema is demonstrated adjacent to the lateral aspect of the proximal humerus.
I have gone through your MRI report and will try my best to explain it to you. On MRI the normal bone marrow gives specific visual impression. Any abnormality in it, for example, due to any disease which is replacing the bone marrow or because of post traumatic micro fractures in that area can give abnormal signals within the normal background bone marrow area. In that case sometimes it becomes difficult to differentiate in between the two, esp. if the patent has undergone recent trauma, as your case suggests. Post traumatic soft tissue edema is to be expected . In case of trauma, it doesn't require major treatment procedures as it heals by itself and these changes revert with time.
I would recommend you consult your local physician for detailed clinical evaluation and further management (pain medication or physiotherapy) accordingly.
I hope this answers your question. Please feel free to contact HCM again if you have any concerns. Wishing you good health.
