Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I went today to register for surgery to repair and inguinal hernia. I had had a neuclear stress test done on June 17. The results showed my refraction index was 29 and the anesthesiologist cancelled my appointment. In October 0f 2014 iad had e pacemaker-defibrillator put in place. The hernia doesn t bother me and I don t want to jeapordize my life. I m still practicing dentistry and have been for 50 years.
Since your treating doctor cancelled your appointment, he should have referred you to a cardiologist for a thorough cardiac check up. You have history of having pacemaker-defibrillator. Get a repeat blood & imaging tests done to assess the Ejection fraction(CAT scan, muga scan, echo, nuclear stress test, etc).Low ejection fraction(under 40% may cause cardiomyopathy or heart failure). Normal ejection fraction is 50-70%.
You should get detected the factor causing low ejection fraction, get it treated at the earliest. You will be treated with medications/ surgery if needed. Avoid stress, stay active, maintain low BMI & take home made nutritious food. Avoid red meat, oily food, dairy products. Take fruits & veggies. Avoid addictions if any.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
