What Does My Pap Smear Test Result Indicate?

I just received my PAP results. I had my Cervix and Uterus removed in 1996. My current results show E6/E7 viral messenger and High risk HPV types (16,18,31,33,35,39,45,51,52,56,58,59,66,68). I have not been able to reach my doctor yet. What do I have to look forward to?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Your test report has shown that you are positive for Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) high risk sub types.
High risk sub types are those which have high risk of causing squamous cell carcinoma of cervix and genital tract.
As you have mentioned that your cervix is surgically removed thus, chances of developing cancer of cervix is nil.
However, HPV can infect the upper aero-digestive tract and other parts of genital tract also and hence cause development of cancer.
There is no treatment available for HPV infection once it is contracted.
However, vaccination against HPV is available.
You can get the vaccination against HPV.
A strict surveillance will be required so as to register any development of any suspicious lesion or wart.
You need to report is to your doctor in case you develop any of these lesions.
In addition, you should practice only protected sex.
HPV infection transmits via sexual route readily.

Thanks and take care
