Hello,
As per your question, your wife has
hypothyroidism, which in simple language means your thyroid gland is not producing enough thyroid hormone. She is already on thyroid replacement with dose of 62.5 still her
TSH value is 10.39 which is high. While on thyroid replacement, goal is to keep TSH on lower side of normal.
Now there are few causes that can cause TSH to be elevated even on therapy. Most common and simple is that your thyroid replacement is not adequate. It is also important to know when the test was done after starting or changing thyroid dose as it will take 4-6 weeks approximately to
affect TSH value. Also it is important to take medicine as advised on empty stomach and to give gap of minimum 1 hr between other medication like your antacids. As it can affect absorption of drugs.
What I usually do in practice is ask about prior TSH report, how many weeks after which TSH was repeated and also advice regarding proper method of taking thyroid replacement. In your wife's case I would continue TSH at 100 ug as you have already started and just repeat it after 2-3 months.
If you have any queries, I would be happy to answer.
Thank you.
