Was pregnant (waiting for missed miscarriage now - 9.5 weeks preg) and obgyn suggested scan of thyroid bc felt a little big. Results 2 nodules , The nodule on the left was 2.4cmx1.7cm x 1.5cm.The nodule on the right was 1.4 cm x 12cm x9cm- tsh on low side but in range .049- .... Hcg 37000 and going down due to unviable preg. I do have uptake scan to measure nodule secretion soon but concerned about nodules... Slightly irritated feeling left side... Annoying more than anything. No cough or hoarse voice or swallowing prob. What could the nodules be considering my tsh lower and that there are 2? Please offer some advice.. Thank you! Ps I am stressed beyond all- Allison 34 female How much to worry?
Good evening and welcome to HCM! I do understand your situation. Multinodular goitre is a very common pathology in the general population (1 in 2 persons has nodules in ultrasound). When the nodules are bigger than 1 cm we do require further investigations. The TSH level at the lower limits may suggest an hyperproduction of the hormones by any of the nodules and this should be confirmed with the scintiscan (always after being sure that the pregnancy has stopped). The nodule that is cold in scintiscan (cold means doesn't uptake the radioactivity and has a risk for malignancy about 6%) is a candidate for Fine needle biopsy aspiration. The fact that there are 2 nodules doesn't mean anything. May be one them is cold, but maybe are both. Hope i have been helpful.
