What Does My Ultrasound Result Of The Thyroid Indicate?

Just had an ultrasound of thyroid done .The report says A 2.7 cm solid hypoechoic nodule is seen in the right midpole containing a punctate echogenic calculus. Hypervascularity is seen on color Doppler imaging. Does that mean chance of having cancer is very high? 30 years old female

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Based on the ultrasound report you have furnished, it states that you have a solid calcified nodule of 2.7 cm with good amount of blood supply. Based on the ultrasound examination, it can not be differentiated weather it is cancerous or not.
You need to get 'Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology' test done to know about the nodule status, as to it is cancerous or not. Also, the findings needs to be correlated with the biochemical and ultrasound report.
Kindly consult ENT Surgeon with the reports for clinical evaluation and management.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
