What Does My Ultrasound Scan Report Indicate?

Hi, doctor I want to ask you something. In the early stage of my pregnancy, my placenta was lower posterior and OS was covered by lower margin, type III post. Today, my ultrasound result is upper left posterior. What is the condition of my baby? Can I birth from vagina or if not can I make operation for birth? Please answer for me. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Placenta previa is the condition in which the fetal placenta covers the uterine outlet that is the cervix of the mother. Normally, the placenta formed and attached either to the top or side walls of the uterus. In placenta previa, the placenta seen covering the internal os of the uterus. The extent of covering varies with the occasion.

The extent placenta previa may decreases along the course of pregnancy. The enlarging uterus may increase the space between the placenta and the internal os. If this condition is found, one should avoid exercise or other activities including relationship which may induce contraction and bleeding.

Ultrasonogram of the abdomen finds out the condition. It may presents as vaginal bleeding during the later half of the pregnancy. Management depends on the extent of coverage and the symptoms. If the placenta covers partially or fully at the term, C-section will be planned for delivery. Discuss with the obstetrician about the different line of management for you.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
