Hello Dr. I was wondering if I could get a little help. Went for an ultrasound at 5weeks and got a report saying a non gravid uterus with uniform myometrial and fairly thickened endometrial plate of 13mm is seen. Features suggest endometritis or decidual reaction. Can I get an explanation on this as am I have been worries sick since I got this result. Thank you.
In the early weeks of pregnancy the sac can be tiny and not visible to the eye on transabdominal ultrasound scan. If your urine pregnancy test is positive then it is possible that your pregnancy is in the early stage at 5 weeks and therefore decidual reaction in uterus is mentioned. The decidual reaction in uterus is a normal feature early in pregnancy during the first 5 weeks of gestation. A 13 mm endometrial thickening most likely signifies that the uterus is prepared to support the pregnancy and the pregnancy is small to be seen on the scan. You can get another scan done in 2 weeks.
If in doubt you can do the transvaginal ultrasoud scan to know if the sac is present. This gives a clear picture and picks the pregnancy 2 weeks before it is seen on trans abdomen scan.
Endometritis is a differential diagnosis and is a feature only if the urine pregnancy test is negative. Please do not worry.
Hi I can understand your anxiety for pregnancy.your ultrasound report shows thicked endometrium of 13 mm thickness and your saying 5 wks.usually by 5 wks gestational sac with fetal pole should be seen.either your dates might be wrong or according to scan report both the possibilities are correct.best thing is go for urine pregnacy test.if it is postive you might be confused with dates and we can follow up scan.if urine pregnancy test negative eendometritis may be possibility.dont worry.go for urine pregnancy test.stil any doubts feel free to write. Thank you With best regards Vasundhara
