A most recent bilateral mammogram/ultrasound indicated a "cyst with debris" on both breasts. The technician recommended a follow-up in 6 months. However, the billing code on my test results indicated "malignant neoplasm of breast." Is having a cyst with debris the same as having a malignant neoplasm? Should I seek a second opinion. My mother died of breast cancer so I am a bit concerned.
It is not possible to comment on malignant neoplasm on sono-mammography report. It may be a infected cyst. There may be typing error in billing code. Your condition need clinical correlation and further investigations. You may need FNAC. Only FNAC can assess exact nature of cyst. You may need further evaluation by a surgeon. If it is a benign cyst the you may only need follow up ultrasound. Don't worry. This is not the way to confirm malignancy.
