What Does My Ultrasound Scan Test Report Indicate?
Hi I am 32 years old. A month ago I had abortion using pills and I was suffered by prolonged bleeding. And my US report shows endometrium is thickened to 17mm. But for the past 2 days bleeding was stopped and I have not taken any medicine to control the bleeding at that time. Let me know still I need surgical procedure. Please clarify
Normally endometrium just after periods 2-4 mm and early proliferative phase (day 6-14) is 5-7 mm. Since the endometrium shows thickening with 17mm, you will require intervention. The endometrium thickening occurs in response to estrogen stimulation.
You may not require dilatation and curettage at this stage. You can be tried with administration of progestin.
How much and how long you take it depends on your age and the type of hyperplasia. For this you need to consult Gynecologist for management. Treatment with progestin will cause vaginal bleeding like a menstrual period.
Then you require a follow up ultrasound scan to see for the response. Most of them respond well to this treatment.
Hope the information provided is useful. All the best.
