What Does Narrowing Of The Arteries In The Brain Indicate?

I had an MRI that showed that my arteries in my brain were narrowed. What is the technical term for that? Also , Iam 72 and wonder if I am at high risk for a stroke any time soon. Also, what medical intervention could help slow the progression. I am currently having symptoms of weakness in my hands, arms and legs. I also have tremuers in my hands. Should I see my neurologist, the one wwho orderedthe MRI, or my primary doctor, or a heart specialist. Thank you, mrs Parker

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Narrowing of the blood vessels can be due to high cholesterol or due to calcification (calcium deposits), in the blood vessels.

Controlling risk factors decreases the chance of stroke occurring, example as controlling blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, no smoking and also trying to be active.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
