Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was diagnosed with spinal stenosis about 4 years age and had surgery. About a year and a half ago I started to experience numbness on the back of my legs which then proceeded to lose feeling in my legs. Once I waited a few minutes, it would pass. About six months ago, my legs started to suddenly give out on me when I started walking. It has gradually gotten worse. Now my legs give out at least 4 to 5 times a day. Also it has progressed to my arms. I have no pain and my feeling returns if I stop walking and reach for support. Could these problems stem from my spinal stenosis?

What Does Numbness Behind The Legs Indicate?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. As per my clinical judgement, the numbness behind legs can be neurologic origin with little chances of vascular compromise. I recommend to undertake an MRI of the lumbar spine with color Doppler involving lower limb to fix the diagnosis and treat accordingly. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
