Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my husband has been experiencing one sided body numbness like neuropathy that starts from the top of his head to the sole of his foot all one sided right side to be exact. Its even in the right side of his face. he has seen neurology, has had MRIs and CT scans with and without contrast. Diabetes was a diagnsosis which is completely controlled now with weight loss. However he continues to experience this constant nerve condition. Hes been told he doesnt fit the picture for MS and that there are 2 very old infarcts on his brain that they have ruled out TIA/stroke. This was a sudden onset of numbness that started in May of this year. We are totally stumped as to what is causing this. He had a EMG that shows the nerve impulses are definitiely not working correctly. Does anyone have any advice
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
By your history and description, he is having peripheral neuropathy due to diabetes. Diabetes can cause nerve damage which is permanent. This is the reason why doctors insisted on strict control of diabetes. It is good that he is controlling diabetes well but the damage done by uncontrolled diabetes is not reversible. He should try Pregabalin or Gabapentin with Methylcobalamine (vitamin B12) for this tingling numbness. Electronic shock wave therapy is also beneficial in some cases.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wishing him good health.
Thanks.
