A condition in which a patient loses all sense of feeling in the left side of the back, below the upper limb, and extending in a band around to the chest, also below the upper limb, but where all sensation on the right is normal, suggests that the patient’s dorsal roots have been damaged on the left side adjacent to the part of the spinal cord supplying that part of the body
