Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does Numbness On The Left Side Of The Body Indicate?
my wife had a parathyroid surgery @ MERCY in DES MOINES. she was prescribed HYDROCODACETAM. she said about 10-15 minutes after taking her 1st dosage...her LEFT hand curled up, lost sensation in her left side...upon which time an ambulance was called & she was rushed to MERCY WEST in DES MOINES. she thought she was having a stroke. my son, who had taken her there for her surgery...said that the DR. stated that she DID NOT have a stroke...only a REACTION to this medicine. this was ALL while she was in MERCY care. QUESTION: knowing that HYDROCODONE is an OPIOID & ACETAMINOPHEN is a GENERIC/OTC pain reliever...how could a hospital/dr. prescribed pain reliever like this cause the adverse adfects of the medicine she endured????
The simple explanation to your question is that this is a question that has been asked in retrospect. No doctor or hospital can predict the side effect that a person will have to a medicine.
Every medicine has a side effect, but one does not mind taking it till the side effect occurs. So it is unfortunate that she had the side effect, but there is no possible way the occurrence of side effect can be predicted for every patient.
Hope I have answered your query.
