Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does Numbness On The Left Side Of The Body Indicate?
Hello. My brother is 22 years old. Not known to have any disease. Smoker, obese. Complains of numbness in the whole left side of his body with mild weakness specially when he wakes up in the morning. MRA normal lipid profile normal Low serum B 12 MRI brain showed periventricular and deep white matter foci. Could it be MS? And What are the other possible diagnoses please?
Given the age, symptoms and MRI findings I would say that MS is indeed the most likely diagnosis.
A more complete report might help to make the diagnosis certain if a dissemination in time of the lesions is confirmed by imaging.
Other diagnoses to consider would be multiple strokes, infections, autoimmune conditions, nutritional deficiencies.
However, if the physical neurological exam and imaging findings fulfil the criteria then diagnosis may be certain without the need for any other additional tests for other diagnoses.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
