What Does Numbness On The Left Side Of The Face Indicate?

About 10 days ago, I had a partial loss of feeling on the left side of my face. The loss is most noticeable on the cheek bone and left side of my nose. It s not painful or debilitating, just annoying. It varies in intensity but there is no pain or numbness anywhere else. This occurred a day or so after having a dental crown put in on the left lower jaw but there is no problem in the area around the tooth. This hasn t interfered with sleeping, eating or exercise. Should I be concerned?

Hello,

As per your query, you have symptoms of numbness in the left side of the face which seems to be due to facial nerve dysfunctioning leading to Bell's palsy which is a condition that causes temporary weakness or paralysis of the muscles in one side of the face.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you consult neurologist/ oral and maxillofacial surgeon for proper diagnosis and rule out a condition like trigeminal neuropathy. The doctor may conduct various tests to confirm the diagnosis and may prescribe a muscle relaxant and anti-inflammatory medications.

Till now start doing exercises of facial muscles and go for a massage or light muscle exercise. Avoid exposure to the allergen.
