Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been experiencing a numb mouth and lips on my face, and some kind of swelling to the throat for some time now. I do have seasonal allergies but this does not change with the season. Also above my ears the muscles are very tight and sore and along the front of the neck. I am 66, female, and always have been in good health. I cannot taste food that well, I have a metallic taste in the mouth.
As per your query, you have symptoms of numbness on the lips and face which is mainly due to nerve dysfunction or nerve damage. Numbness on left side of face is more serious concern as it could be facial paralysis, a symptom of stroke and could be viral infection.
Need not to worry. I would suggest you to go for its proper diagnosis first and then treatment accordingly. Go for blood tests as well.
You should do daily mouth exercises for at least 15 to 20 minute, avoid opening mouth. Apply warm compresses and take supplements such as Cyanocobalamin.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
