Hi,
Occult blood in the urine refers to the presence of blood that is not visible to the naked eye. A trace amount of occult blood is sometimes seen in routine
urinalysis and can be a normal finding, especially in women during
menstruation. However, if the result is flagged as abnormal, it is important to further investigate the cause.
Possible causes of occult blood in the urine include
urinary tract infections, kidney stones, bladder or kidney tumors, inflammation of the bladder or prostate, and injury to the urinary tract. Certain medications, such as blood thinners, can also cause blood in the urine.
The
urologist may perform further tests, such as a urine culture, imaging studies, or a
cystoscopy (insertion of a small camera into the bladder) to evaluate the urinary tract. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause of the occult blood.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
