What Does Pain Above The Hips On The Left Side Indicate?

I have had back pain on left side about hip level, occurring when I lie down, for over a year. It seems internal, not musculo-skeletal. I am thinking kidney-related, as it abates when I get up and urinate. No pain on urination, no blood noticed. Help?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

To determine rather the pain originates from kidney or bone pathologies, you need an abdominal ultrasound and a pelvic X-ray. They will help to find out abdominal or pelvic pathologies.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
