What Does Pain And Breathing Difficulty Indicate?

i had a painful wheezing experience today. I am very healthy 64 yr old woman. I hike a lot. Today after hiking for an hour in the woods this happened. It was quite frightening as I could not breathe and I made those high pitched noises for about a minute I believe until I could breathe properly Im just curious to know if this is something I should see my Dr. about.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.

its simple to understand that how patients becomes difficult to breath.

Our tracheo-bronchial tree consists of smooth muscle fibers, and any muscle get contracts or spasm with effect on cold and just opposite to warm or hot, it relaxes.

Now, if any one who is already have their tracheo-bronchial muscles allergic to spasm (like in asthma or during long walking-hiking ).

In addition when they get cold air, this smooth muscles begin to contract leading to constriction of tracheo-bronchial tree turned into unable to get air exchange and difficulty in breathing.

Inhalers makes this muscles relaxed or dilatation in medical terms within seconds.

If you are facing severe breathing difficulty and associated pain then you should check some routine blood works,ESR,chest X-ray.

You should see physician for immediate treatment if breathing problem remains constant and troubling your day to day life.

Regards,
