What Does Pain And Swelling In The Right Thumb Indicate?

I have swelling and redness ,pain in my right thumb. I’ve seen my Internist and she thinks it is gout. She put me on Methyprednisolone 4 mg dospak 21’s. This is day three. no change in symptoms or pain. I had a blood test that indicated no gout. What now? ?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi. welcome to Ask A Doctor service. I have read your question and here is my advice.
Your Docter may be right , this may be gout though some times the blood test may be normal in acute gout .However thier history suggests that .
howe'ver I would like that you see your docter again so that she re-assess you .I would like that he repeat the test for gout , and also get n xray of the joint to rule out any fracture etc.
pain of gout may take few days.
HopesI have answered your question. I will be glad to answer any further question about this.
Regards
Dr Rahman
