Hi my name is Annie I have recently had pins put in my ankle. It started of with fractured fibula in November than I was put on crutches for a week after my review with a doctor they said it wasn’t healing so I had to have surgery. I was than put in boot after the surgery non weight barring for 4 weeks. I just found I can put weight on it with the boot and I’m scheduled for surgery to remove the pins in 6 weeks. Because my job is physically demanding I’m unable to attend work till the pins are removed. When I try to walk on the boot my feet hurt the back of my feet.. is that normal.on my heels. The boot doesn’t completely touch the floor. I understand it’s normal to limp but not sure bout the little painI don’t want to have a setback
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
* As per my surgical experience, the pain behind heel indicates an assembly of reasons as:
- Uniting fracture site
- Ligament spasm post operative
- Nerve pinch from screw sites
- Weight bearing related
- Stiffness in healed muscle.
I recommend an MRI of the anklet for best evaluation and further management guidelines.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
