Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 20 year old son says that he has knee pain behind his knee cap. Does not hurt with every step, but does have pain every 5 steps or so. He plays soccer and says that he doesn t have pain when he plays. Trying to figure out if he needs to go see a doctor.
I am glad you reached out to HCM with your question.
Pain behind the knee cap may be seen with injuries to the cruciate ligament. This can happen when there is a grade 1, 2, or 3 tear.
Most cruciate ligament tears need massage, icing, rehabilitation, and other supportive therapy. Some tears and tears that are complete may need surgery.
It would be best to see your doctor and get the necessary imaging done to help get to the cause. I hope this help you!
All the best.
