What Does Pain In The Abdomen Along With Nausea Indicate?

My 20 year old son is complaining of pain on both sides of his lower abdomen. He is a runner and completed a race a couple of days ago. He usually has side pain after a race, but it s been several days now and the pain is not subsiding. He s had some initial nausea with the pain, too.

Hello,

Pain after running occurs due to muscle strain. If this happens repeatedly, it may lead to muscle damage or hernia which leads to continuous pain. This might be the case of your son.

In my opinion it is better to go for following investigations before confirming diagnosis:
1. Ultrasound of abdomen
2. Liver function tests
3. X-ray abdomen

There is no need to worry, but investigations guide us in a better way. We can conclude the actual diagnosis so that we can go in a better way.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vamsi Krishna Chittimoju
