Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 58 year old female in good shape. A couple of weeks ago my arch stared to hurt and the pain has not gotten any better. It also hurts when I press on the top of the foot. How do I treat this so it goes away. I just got new shoes for running/ cross training hoping this will make a difference
I am glad we connected. The most common causes of pain in the arch of the foot are usually - Muscle strain Soft tissue injury Overuse injuries Stressfractures rarely
Many people find a regimen of PRICE or POLICE useful for this. POLICE uses the following - Protection - Protect the joint from injury or further worsening of the symptoms Optimal loading - Starting some exercise that puts the right amount of load so that there will be healing Icing the area for 15 mins at a time Compression of the area by using a compression sock Elevation of the leg at night to allow for the blood to flow back to the heart
Please reach out if you have any questions. I hope this helps. All the best.
