Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Doctor, I had a angioplasty done 5 months back (April 2017) with one stent inserted.Am on medication with Ecosprin 150, plavix 75, Rosavel 40 and seloken. I had a pin pricking pain in my left calf muscle today and went upto shoulder bone for one second. Is anything to worry?
1. As you are on blood thinners thus DVT [deep vein thrombosis] has to be immediately excluded as there is severe pain in the calf muscle, so seek immediate medical intervention [vascular surgeon opinion] or visit an ER.
2. since there is period of 5 months, thus it is important to know that if patient leads a sedentary or inactive lifestyle he is prone to formation of blood clots which can result in embolism [watch closely for any new chest pain with difficulty breathing, and rapid heart rate]
3. Monitor your INR [international normalized ratio] since higher values carry the risk of bleeding and subnormal values carry an increased risk for repeated thrombosis.
