What Does Pain In The Left Heel Indicate?

I have had pain in my left heal for almost 2 months now. Sometimes I have to walk on the ball of my foot to keep from walking on my heal. I felt I may have like a stone bruise or bone spur but some ladies at work mentioned Plantar Faciitis. I m not sure what to do to help it heal.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
I can understand your concern regarding the pain in your heel.
The two major causes of heel pain are plantar fasciitis and achilles tendinitis. The easiest way to figure out which one is causing your pain is by location.
Generally speaking, if the pain is under your heel bone it is likely plantar fasciitis.
If the pain is found at the back of the heel, in the achilles or toward the base of the achilles then it is likely achilles tendinitis.
You can do some home remedies yourself to begin with.
Self-management may include using ice, stretching, wearing proper footwear and altering training methods.
Ice should be applied prior to and following activity for approximately 20 minutes.
Try using a frozen 12-16 oz. bottle of water and gently rolling it under the arch and heel.
Please consult your primary care physician if it does not help.
I hope my answer helps.
Thanks,
Dr.Prabhas Verma
