Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had off & on, a mild pain in my outside left thigh , lower buttock area. It causes me to limp and seems most sever at night. I also notice it after getting up from a sitting position, climbing stairs etc. I walk 2 plus miles most days & am fairly active. Walking seems to lessen the pain. There have been periods when the pain has completely gone away but then it returns.
The most frequent cause for the pain in the outer thigh is the muscle related injury which matches with your situation. If you are doing some sport or you have a wrong movement responsible caused overstretching of the muscle, you will have the sensation of a dull aching pain in the outer thigh increases when you stand or do some movements. In that case you need to rest, the using of stretching and massage may helps, a dose of steroids or a medication called muscle relaxants help to have some comfort. You need to change some wrong habits which might be responsible for the pain returning like wrong movements which responsible of repeated injuries of the hip muscles.
Hope I answered your question Wish you a speedy recovery Best regards Dr. Noor Farid
