Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a rod in my tibia. It s been there for about 12 years. They told me that they were going to take it out, but never followed up. I had the screw that was screwed through my tibia to hold the rod in place removed because it was rubbing against a nerve a few years after the initial surgery. (it was a nightmare.) I m very active (competitive tennis, heavy yard work. . . ). There is pain in this leg at the break site, esp. when the weather gets very moist. When I walk, it feels like the bone is going to break. I recently went to see the orthopedic folks and when they took the Xray, they said that the rod was BROKEN! But, they didn t seem concerned. I am 59 years old. Not sure how to proceed or what this pain is all about.
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can. Causes of your difficulties may be neuropathy or ischemic issues. Neuropathic are seen in diabetics or injury of spine nerves. If this is not your case then these symptoms are indicating circulatory problems in legs which are common in this age and there may be present atherosclerosis that obstructs blood vessels and causes pain and blisters to form. You should do Doppler ultrasound of the leg or CT angiography to rule out such obstructive changes and then it can be treated properly by medications or by surgical and radiological procedures. ALso, you should have Aspirine 100mg and have elastic stockings applied, and should avoid cold environment and long walks. In most cases it can be managed with medications but sometimes surgery may be required in severe cases. I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time. Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
