What Does Pain In The Lower Abdomen And Thumb Joints Indicate?
I ve had lower back pain same area of fusion 10 years ago by a reputable neurosurgeon when weather is wet. Started about a month ago. In the past two weeks I ve experienced pain in both thumb joints at the hand. Equal pain in each and painful to shake hands or lift using full grip. Is this arthritis?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I would like to tell you that the pain in your lower back can be a result of disk prolapse and needs to be assessed again by a neurosurgeon. He may advise an MRI to check the current condition of your spine.
The pain in your thumb joints can be a result of arthritis. It has to be determined whether it is osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. For that, you have to get a few blood tests done like RA factor and ESR along with an x-ray of the hand.
You should consult an orthopaedician for the same. Meanwhile you can take an over-the-counter painkiller like advil to relieve the pain and inflammation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Nazma Amman
