What Does Pain In The Lower Back On The Left Side Indicate?

I have had lower left back pain- right above my hip for 2 days now and it has now spread to the front of my pelvis and to the right side on the back as well. It hurts to where it stops me when I walk or when I use the restroom- it really starts hurting. Is this serious?
