What Does Pain In The Lower Back On The Right Side Indicate?

I have been experiencing lower back pain on my right side. It was very severe but has improved some. It hurts when I take a deep breath as well as right after I have a bowel movement. I don t have any fever and It doesn t hurt all of of the time. I m not sure why this is happening. Thought maybe you could give me an answer or some advise to how to treat it. I am a 55 year old male that is fairly healthy normally.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

* As there is pain on lower back increasing with deep breath, there can be possible
- disturbances with the lower lobe of right lung
- right kidney stone or other issues with right ureter
- bowel pathology
- liver or pancreas disorder with referred secondary pain over back

I strongly recommend to undertake a CT scan of the abdomen & pelvis for further management guidelines in details.
Take care.
Thank you.
