What Does Pain In The Lower Leg And Knees Indicate?

Hi! I have been having leg pain for about 3weeks now. It seems to be getting worse. It starts around the knee and goes all the way down the front of the leg to the foot. It seems to feel swollen down the center of the leg where the bone is. I have fibromyalgia and Mixed Connective tissue disease could it be that?

Thanks for contacting with your health concern.

1. As you are a diagnosed case and some acute/chronic symptoms have arisen thus it could be a flare-up of the existing pathology [since fibromyalgia can affect any fibromuscular tissue especially those of low back and thigh] so check with C- reactive protein/ESR.

PS. Consult your doctor/Rheumatologist for thorough medical history, physical examination and laboratory test.

2. As the symptoms are getting worse you need urgent medical evaluation since it could be a blood clot [DVT- deep vein thrombosis] which has to be immediately excluded as there is swelling so seek immediate medical intervention [vascular surgeon opinion] or visit an ER.

PS. Ask for doppler study [since the clot could break free and travel up to the lungs to cause fatal embolism]
