What Does Pain In The Lower Pelvic Area Indicate?

I have experienced a dull ache / pain in my lower right pelvic area for approx. 2 months. In the last month it has added a sharp pain in my pelvic area, shooting down my leg and into my buttock / up my back. I have taken up to 800 mg of ibuprofen and the pain does not subside. My menstrual cycle has been 28 - 29 days apart for many many years, and in the last 3-4 months it has changed to 14-21 days apart. I am 41 years old.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Pain in the pelvic area can be due to:
-A bladder infection
-Pelvic inflammatory disease
-Uterine fibroids.
I suggest you to do a complete blood count and an ultrasound for confirmation of he diagnosis.
Meanwhile you can take painkillers such as ibuprofen 400 mg three times a day.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
